How to choose the right international auto shipping company when you need to move your car

Monday, June 30th, 2008

When relocating, especially to an international destination, it is very important to keep in mind the need to relocate the automobile. Most often the requirements for car relocation differ from that of other possessions. When you involve the services of an international auto shipping company to move your car, you need to keep certain basics in mind and research them thoroughly.

•    International shipping companies charge extra for relocation of automobiles, cars in particular and SUVs and other oversized vehicles. You need to ensure that the international auto shipping company engaged to move your car offers you a reliable shipping quote, either directly or via a dedicated transporter or broker, before you sign any contract.
•    It pays to investigate the dedicated Car Movers Directory. This directory lists automobile, car and other vehicle shipping companies for national and international destinations. The international auto shipping company engaged to move your car should offer services taken care of by brokers, who belong to the Auto Transport Brokers Association. The brokerage fee should be charged per vehicle.
•    When you work with an international auto shipping company equipped to move your car or an auto transport company directly instead of through a broker, you enjoy flexibility in price negotiation. However, most of the international auto shipping companies that handle car relocation charge the broker fee anyway.
•    You need to research on the accessible leverage when complaining about poor car shipping service and whether or not the international auto shipping company is legal. You also need to verify whether or not the chosen international auto shipping company equipped to move your car is registered with the Department Of Transportation. Always verify and double check on the Department Of Transportation or DOT number.
•    You can consider open car shipping. This mode is 60% cheaper than enclosed shipping of your car, especially to an international destination. Despite apprehension, the fact is that your car is not so badly off being transported on an open carrier. You would better understand this by imagining your car being driven down to the destination. The traveling on the open road and the road hazards involved are the same as those involved in the open car shipping option. Although, if your car is a vintage piece, then exclusive enclosed shipping has to be considered.
•    The enclosed car carriers to international destinations are equipped to offer you special transportation care and service, at practically twice as much as conventional car shipping. The car arrives at its destination in perfect condition. This type of international auto shipping service is especially good for specialty vehicles and sports cars that need to be relocated.
•    The chosen international car relocation company should offer your vehicle insurance that covers it in full. Brokers do not directly insure your car; however, they contract out with companies that do so.

When choosing the right international auto shipping company to move your car, you need to make sure that the set up is reliable and meets industry standards. There are many resources that offer instant quotes the moment you enter your contact information, vehicle type and destination. The resources can be tapped online and offline.

Basic Information on Mold

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Mold has been a problem in areas populated by human beings for not only centuries, but as the Bible seems to relate to us, millennia and the effects on the health of human beings has been documented since that time.  The scripture calls the mold infestations in homes and business buildings a “leprous plague” that must be dealt with as soon as it is noticed.

The symptoms of excess mold exposure are both many and varied.  Allergenic molds cause, as the name implies, aggravation of allergies and respiratory conditions that already exist and can create new allergies that did not exist before the exposure.  These symptoms can surface in the form of sneezing, watery eyes, a runny nose, or some quite unsightly skin rashes that are pretty itchy when left untreated.  If these symptoms only show up when you are in your home and you do not have them when you are at work or elsewhere, you might want to consider having your home tested for mold.

While some of the most serious infections around the world are caused by mold exposure, one thing that has become a staple in the medical community is penicillin.  Penicillin is produced from mold in the genus penicillium and has been used as a cure for all kinds of infections since the early 1900’s.  Unfortunately, the penicillium genus also has a serious disease named after it that occurs mostly in HIV and AIDS patients in Southeast Asia.

Mold grows in humid areas of your home and you may not even know it is there if it grows inside your walls.  Homes that have been damaged by floods may have mold growing behind the walls and you will not even realize it most of the time.  Try to keep the humidity in your home as far down as possible and the temperature somewhere around 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.  Any moist rooms in the house should have an exhaust vent installed so the steam is allowed to escape.  This will include the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and the basement.  If you happen to do laundry in the basement and for some reason the dryer does not work or you do not have one, do not hang clothes up to dry down there, since this will create the humidity that you are trying to prevent.

Keep any water spills cleaned up.  Whether the bath tub or the kitchen sink or the toilet overflows, cleaning up these spills as soon as they occur is essential to prevent water damage and mold growth in your house.  Another important think to realize is that you should never have carpet installed in the bathroom and that cracked tiles need to be replaced as soon as possible.

Mold in the Apartment and Legal Liability

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

If you sign a lease to an apartment or a house, many believe you are bound to that lease, even if they discover the integrity of the apartment is not up to par.  Even if they discover toxic mold. This, however, is not the case at all. If you have done as just described, it is important for you to know that is your landlord’s responsibility to inform you of any all possible health risks that the apartment may have, as they are liable to legal action if they do not provide a healthy place of living. Your landlord can indeed be held responsible if your family take ill as a result of the mold infestation in the aforementioned property.

In order to do this, one must prove that the mold exists in the area rented, because in most leases mold testing, removal, and regular inspections do not have to be covered by the landlord. In fact, the one who pays for these things is you. You must, however, be able to prove there is a mold problem to begin with.

And if you are able to prove that the rented property is indeed infested with mold, then the landlord is possibly liable for medical bills, loss of income due to sickness, damage to the tenant’s health, and any possible property damage brought on by the infestation. They can also be liable for other things, such as the difference between rent at the mold infested area and the new un-infested rented area, mold inspections, money required to move to a clean environment, and the remediation of the rented space paid for by the tenant prior to moving out of the infested room.

You should, however, first notify your landlord that there is a mold infestation by mail and provide proof of your claim inside the envelope. The mold sample you send will be tested and identified using a mold test kit signed by a mold laboratory. It is important to have a written report signed by a certified mold inspector along with a laboratory report. If the landlord does not acknowledge this notice, you can send a second notice stating you will withhold your rent until the infestation is dealt with in a timely manner. If the landlord chooses, still, to ignore the notice, send a final notice explaining that you will be vacating the premises and that you are either contemplating seeking or are actively seeking legal action.

Cladosporium Mold

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Cladosporium mold is one of the most common and globally present molds in existence. It has around 40 species that are found in soil or on decaying organic matter and some studies that have been conducted in North America and in Europe claim that the mold is present outdoors year round, although the concentration of this mold is quite low during the winter.

In the summer, spore levels can reach from 2,000 to 50,000 particles per cubic meter of air. The air and concentration of these spores in your home are influenced by two factors: the outdoor concentration and whether the mold is growing in your house or not.

In the home, Cladosporium species manifest themselves as an infection in the walls, second to Penicillium species, Aspergillus species, and Wallemia sebi. It is prevalent on building materials that have gotten wet. The four species that occur most commonly are Cladosporium herbarum, Cladosporium sphaerospermum, Cladosporium cladosporioides, and Cladosporium macrocarpum. The spores of these molds are dispersed by air currents and are extremely common in outdoor environments; when they are found indoors, they grow on surfaces where moisture is present.

The different species of this mold that occur are not generally human pathogens unless a person’s immune system has been compromised in some way. They do, however, have the tendency to cause allergic reactions in certain people. Exposure to high levels of spores can induce asthma and chronic allergies. A concentration of 3000 spores per cubic meter of air space are usually seen as being of clinical importance. Some people may react to a lower concentration of these spores depending upon their own individual sensitivity to them. Infections of the toenails and skin can occur, along with some reports of sinusitis and some pulmonary infections, but only rarely do these occur.

These species of mold are detected quite easily in mold test kits and spore traps around the home and can appear as black, grey, green, or brown when it grows upon a surface. Generally speaking, the only negative effects associated with Cladosporium are allergic reactions and are less serious of a threat than molds such as Penicillin, Aspergillus, and Stachybotrys. Prolonged exposure to Cladosporium, however, can cause weakened immune systems and while they do not produce any mycotoxins of any significance, they do produce some volatile organic compounds that are associated with odors.
